Electra Health

Downtown Vancouver Osteopathy

Electra Health is pleased to offer exceptional osteopathic treatments to the downtown Vancouver community. Our osteopathic practitioners seek to restore the optimal functioning of your body through the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of various conditions.

Osteopathy is unique in its approach: because our Vancouver osteopaths see every system – neurological, digestive, endocrine, musculoskeletal, etc. – of the body as working together, when one system isn’t working well, it affects other parts of your body.

Osteopathy is a hands-on therapy that works with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. By gently releasing restrictions in muscles, joints, and fascia, osteopathic treatment restores alignment, improves circulation, and relieves pain—without medication or invasive procedures.

Our osteopathic practitioners use precise techniques to improve mobility, reduce tension, and support the nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems. Unlike other treatments that focus only on symptoms, osteopathy works to address the root cause of dysfunction and promote whole-body health.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy views the body as one dynamic unit working together. Our osteopathic practitioners know that the body is inherently capable of self-healing and self-regulating. Osteopathic treatment helps to realign the structural framework of the body, on all layers, to allow the body to function as it was designed. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners are functional anatomists who use manual therapy to restore proper body mechanics, nerve impulse and blood circulation by removing motion restriction in the soft and hard tissues where needed. Osteopathy is a unique approach to manual therapy that aims to treat the root cause of dysfunction instead of only addressing symptoms, to create lasting change in improving overall wellbeing.

The goal of treatment is to improve range of motion and promote blood flow to increase the constitution and vitality of your body. Therefore, any age group (ranging from young children to seniors) with any conditions can benefit from Osteopathic care. Osteopathy is a great preventative care, but also can help people experiencing acute or chronic pain, sports/activity injuries, pre and post surgeries, pre/postnatal etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen when I visit an Osteopathic practitioner?

In a first consultation, an Osteopathic Practitioner will compile a full case history of the patient’s symptoms, as well as information about their lifestyle and diet.

Osteopathic practitioners are trained to examine areas of the body using a highly developed sense of touch, called palpation, to determine conditions and identify the body’s points of weakness or excessive strain. Osteopathic Practitioners also observe the patient doing some simple movements to facilitate evaluation.

The patient will usually be asked to remove some of their clothing near the area of the body to be examined to allow postural assessment. If it would make you feel more comfortable, please bring a loose fitting top and shorts with you.

The Osteopathic practitioner will discuss the most appropriate treatment plan with the patient, estimating the likely number of sessions needed to treat the patient’s condition effectively (usually 4 – 6 treatments at weekly intervals but this can vary from patient to patient depending on to what degree the problem is chronic or acute). If the condition is unlikely to respond to Osteopathic treatment, the patient will be advised on how to seek further care.

Osteopathy is a ‘package’ of care that includes skilled mobilizing and manipulative techniques, reinforced by guidance on healthy lifestyle and exercise. The key to this is the aim of the Osteopathic practitioner to establish the sound patient-practitioner partnership necessary for ensuring quality care.

Everyone from infants ages 0 and up, to their grandparents. Osteopathic care is chosen by many women who wish to relieve pain caused by weight and posture changes during and after pregnancy. Older children often benefit from Osteopathic treatment of a wide range of common complaints such as sinus and postural problems. For older patients, Osteopathic treatment offers the option of drug-free pain relief, eases the physical wear and tear associated with aging, and can improve mobility and reduce inflammation, all of which enhance overall quality of life and independence.

Professional athletes and amateur sports enthusiasts alike turn to Osteopathic care to treat strains or injuries resulting from sporting activities.
