Our CEO and founder, Mark Bentz on our PAARCC Program

Downtown Vancouver ICBC Rehabilitation Program

The PAARCC program is unique to our clinic. The owner, Mark Bentz, designed this program specifically for clients with motor-vehicle related injuries after he went through his own recovery following two separate accidents. Throughout his experience, Mark realized very quickly that while a multidisciplinary approach to MVA-related injuries was imperative in recovery, there was no therapist in charge of his rehabilitation.

This resulted in many appointments with a variety of therapists, leaving him confused about which actions to take to help his recovery. Mark knew that there needed to be a better, more efficient method of therapy and rehab. So, in 2019, he invented the PAARCC Protocol.

What is the PAARCC Program

The PAARCC program is our rehabilitation program for ICBC patients consisting of Physiotherapy, Active rehab, Acupuncture, Registered massage therapy, Chiropractic care and Counselling. But, what really sets the PAARCC program apart is that we match you with a Rehabilitation Team leader, who becomes your go-to throughout every phase of your recovery.

Our administrative team also supports you every step of the way: they handle all your claims and bill directly to ICBC, so you really are in the best hands! And the numbers speak for themselves: since this program has been implemented, we have had a huge amount of clients calling to switch over to our clinic to get started.

How The Program Works

The PAARCC Program process

Our PAARCC program (our ICBC Rehabilitation program) is made up of three phases of rehabilitation. Before your first appointment, our administrative team takes care of all your paperwork, while your rehab team reviews your initial intake form. Your first appointment will be with your Team Lead — a kinesiologist. He or she will be the head of your rehab program and will be your main contact throughout your journey. From there, our kinesiologist assesses you and depending on your needs, connects you with either a physiotherapist, registered massage therapist, chiropractor or acupuncturist. At this point, you now have a ‘core team’ of two therapists – your kinesiologist and the other therapist. As you progress through our phases of your recovery, we will add or subtract additional therapies, depending on your needs. During the entire recovery process, your team meets twice a week to discuss your progress and treatments.

Once you approach the last phase of our program, you will begin active rehabilitation. This is an exercise program that is designed by your kinesiologist, who will be working closely with you to make sure that your body is adjusting. Phase 3 is designed to get you ready to resume an active and healthy life — it is important to remember that setbacks can be a normal aspect of recovery and we are here to support you and get you back on track.

Our administrative team and kinesiologist will also be handling all the administrative aspects of your recovery. They liaise with ICBC and handle the paperwork and billing, so that you can focus on getting better fast!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started with the ICBC program?

In order to get started with your appointments, you need to provide our reception team with your ICBC Claim number, your name and your date of birth. After that, we will contact your adjuster on your behalf and take care of the rest. And you can begin your recovery right away!

How many times do I come for treatment each week?

Our program is designed for you to have two 1-hour blocks of therapy per week.

Do I have to pay for any treatments myself?

No! ICBC automatically pre-approves you for treatments listed below, within 3 months of your accident date. Because your pre-approvals are dependent on your accident date, it is important that you get started right away!

  • Active Rehab/Kinesiology: 12 treatments
  • Acupuncture: 12 treatments
  • Registered Massage Therapy: 12 treatments
  • Chiropractic: 25 treatments

How long does it take to get better?

This depends on the severity of your injuries, your commitment to therapy, and the frequency of treatment. Our intentions are to have you feeling healthy and happy after 3 months of treatment.

What if it takes me longer than 3 months to recover?

No problem! If your recovery requires further treatments, your kinesiologist will submit an extension request to ICBC on your behalf. If this is the case, you may be required to send a doctor’s referral.

We provide direct billing to ICBC. There are no user fees and 100% coverage for the following modalities:

Please call in at least 24 hours in advance if you need to move or cancel your appointment. All appointments that are either late cancellations or no-shows will need to be paid in full by the patient.

How long are the treatments?

All subsequent treatments for Kinesiologist and Massage Therapy are 45 minutes, Acupuncture and Physiotherapy sessions are 30 minutes, and Chiropractic treatments are 15 minutes long.

Can I have 2 treatments of the same therapy in one day?

No. ICBC will only approve one appointment of each modality per day.

This also applies if you’re planning to have another treatment of the same type in another clinic on the same day as your appointment with us.

Can you bill ICBC for an appointment that I missed?

Absolutely not, ICBC does not pay for no shows.

Can I come in for therapy before ICBC gives their approval?

Yes, if you choose to pay out of pocket but we are not responsible if ICBC refuses to cover your claim.

I’m not sure which profession to see, who do you recommend?

If you have a referral from your doctor, then you should start there. If not, we have all our new ICBC clients start with a Kinesiologist for an initial assessment. You will then be assessed and additional therapies may be recommended. We treat a lot of ICBC clients and this treatment plan has been very helpful in optimizing care for your injuries.

Can I see any therapist at the clinic?

We have specific therapists that focus on treating ICBC patients and these are the therapists we will book you with. Also, to optimize your care, we highly recommend staying with one therapist for a given profession.

I want to come in for 1-hour treatments, can I?

Yes, you can but ICBC will not cover the additional fee for the additional time. If you choose to do this, you will need to pay out of pocket for the price difference.
